Every Litre We Collect Changes Something.
Benin Energy isn't just a business. It's a system that turns waste into clean energy, creates local income, and protects the environment — one jerrycan at a time.
Why Recycling Used Cooking Oil Matters
Used cooking oil (UCO) is one of the most versatile and environmentally significant waste products generated by modern kitchens. When improperly disposed of — poured down drains, dumped in gutters, or discarded into the environment — it causes serious and lasting damage.
UCO coats the insides of sewer pipes, creating blockages that can lead to costly infrastructure failures and urban flooding. It forms a film on the surface of water bodies, cutting off oxygen supply to aquatic life and disrupting entire ecosystems. In soil, it prevents water absorption, damages plant roots, and can contaminate groundwater.
Beyond disposal, there is also the danger of recycled-for-cooking oil re-entering the food chain. Reusing cooking oil beyond its safe limit significantly increases the risk of harmful chemicals and carcinogens in food — a public health crisis that disproportionately affects low-income communities.
Benin Energy exists to break this cycle. By creating an organised, well-paying collection system, we make responsible disposal the most attractive option — protecting both the environment and public health.

Cleaning Up Communities. Cooling Down the Planet.
Protecting Waterways
When UCO enters drains and water systems, it creates impermeable layers that suffocate aquatic life and cause severe blockages. Every litre we collect is a litre that stays out of Nigeria's rivers, drains, and coastal waters.
Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
When UCO is converted into biodiesel or used as a feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), it replaces fossil fuels that would otherwise release new carbon into the atmosphere. UCO-based biofuels can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional diesel.
Preventing Soil Contamination
Oil dumped onto land creates hydrophobic barriers that stop water penetration, starving plant roots and degrading agricultural potential. Our collection network removes this risk entirely from participating communities.
Powering the Energy Transition
UCO is a proven, ISCC-certified advanced biofuel feedstock. By supplying verified Nigerian UCO to international refineries, we contribute directly to meeting the EU's Renewable Energy Directive targets and the global shift away from fossil fuels.

Creating Income from What Was Thrown Away
Before Benin Energy, used cooking oil had no value in most communities. It was waste — a disposal problem. Now, it's a source of income. Every person in our supply chain earns money:
- Kitchen owners get paid for oil they used to throw away, creating a new revenue stream with zero extra cost
- Agents earn commission for every litre they collect, building their own independent businesses
- Aggregation centres create local employment and economic activity in the communities they serve
This model turns environmental responsibility into economic opportunity — aligning the incentives of individuals, communities, and the planet.
From Nigerian Kitchens to Global Biofuel
How UCO Becomes Clean Energy
Once collected, tested, and aggregated, UCO undergoes a transformation process to become a clean energy feedstock. It is processed into biodiesel through transesterification, or used as a feedstock in Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production at refineries in Europe.
SAF produced from waste feedstocks like UCO can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel — making it one of the most impactful solutions to decarbonise aviation, one of the hardest-to-abate sectors in global transportation.
West Africa, and Nigeria in particular, represents a largely untapped source of verified UCO. The fast-growing food service sector generates significant volumes, yet formal collection infrastructure barely exists. Benin Energy is building that infrastructure — and in doing so, creating one of the most compelling sustainability stories in African cleantech.
Stronger Neighbourhoods. Cleaner Streets. Bigger Opportunities.
Waste Awareness
Our agents educate communities about proper oil disposal and its environmental consequences, creating lasting behavioural change.
Entrepreneurship
The agent program gives young people and self-starters a path to building their own income and a real business in their neighbourhood.
Public Health
By removing used oil from the food chain and preventing unsafe re-use, we contribute to better nutrition and public health outcomes.
Infrastructure
As we scale, we invest in collection infrastructure and logistics that benefit the broader community and reduce urban waste challenges.
Aligned with Global Goals
SDG 7
Affordable & Clean Energy
Our UCO becomes biofuel feedstock, supporting the global transition to renewable energy.
SDG 8
Decent Work & Economic Growth
We create jobs and income for agents, sellers, and kitchen owners in local communities.
SDG 11
Sustainable Cities & Communities
Proper UCO collection reduces urban pollution and supports cleaner city environments.
SDG 12
Responsible Consumption & Production
We turn a waste product into a valuable resource — the definition of circular economy.
SDG 13
Climate Action
Biofuel from UCO generates up to 90% fewer CO₂ emissions than fossil diesel.
Impact Isn't a Side Effect. It's the Strategy.
Some companies bolt “impact” onto their marketing. At Benin Energy, impact is the business model. We make money because we create value — for sellers, for communities, for the planet, and for the global energy transition. As we grow, we're committed to publishing annual impact reports, seeking third-party verification, and reinvesting in the communities where we operate.
